Imperial expansion continued under Amenophis II and Tuthmosis IV. The reign of Amenophis III (who built the temple of Luxor) was the pinnacle of Egyptian Pharaonic power. His son Amenophis IV changed his name to Akhenaten in honour of the sun god Aten. With his wife Nefertiti, Akhenaten established a new capital at Tel El-Amarna. The capital was later moved to Thebes.
